Depth Psychology is Deeply Embodied
Too often, psychological work privileges cognition over sensation and interpretation over embodiment. It is important to remember that the psyche speaks through posture, breath, image and dreams — not solely through thought. Dreams, myths, and archetypal images are not just psychological — they are also deeply somatic.
Depth psychology is not merely intellectual — it is profoundly embodied. Jung emphasized that the divide between the mind and body is “an artificial dichotomy,” asserting instead that mind and body are an interdependent system. In somatic depth psychology, we recognize that the body is not just a vehicle for the mind. The lived-body is a site of healing, self-expression, and agency.
True healing begins when we start listening to our bodily experiences as more than physical and when we begin to recognize that the messages received from the body are an attempt to invoke the psyche's natural healing capacity.
